What is for supper? Finnish meat gravy and potatoes please! My family is really enjoying my take on this Finnish meatball recipe! All spice and onions add just the right amount of Finnish flavor. This meat gravy is easy to make and can be served over mashed potatoes, rice, buns or toasted bread. Great for a quick healthy meal.

Directions

Brown hamburger. Add salt, pepper, all spice and dried onions. Cook until no longer pink. Drain and set aside.

Using a medium sized sauce pan, melt the butter over medium low heat. When melted add the flour and stir well. Mixture may be lumpy, this is fine. Keep stirring until the roux turns a nice light brown.

Add your better than boullion to the water, slowly add the water to the flour mixture. Stir constantly until smooth. Continue stirring over medium low heat until the gravy thickens.

Add the cooked ground beef to the gravy.

Serve over mashed potatoes, white rice or toasted bread.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp all spice
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp dried onion

Gravy

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 tsp better than boullion

Instructions
 

  • In a large frying pan, cook the ground beef, chopping while cooking over medium high heat. Add the all spice, salt, pepper and onion while cooking. Cook the meat until it is no longer pink. Drain. Turn off heat and set aside.

Gravy

  • In a medium sauce pan melt the butter. When the butter is melted, add the flour. Stir continually until the mixture starts to brown. Slowly add the water and better than boullion. Mix well until smooth. Cook over low heat until thickened. Add the ground beef to the gravy mixture and mix well.
    Serve over mashed potatoes, cooked white rice or toasted bread.
